Great fun for all the family. Often three generations of one family can be spotted frantically pulling in crabs! The quay at Stoke Gabriel offers a safe and scenic venue for catching lots and lots of crabs. It was featured in the Guardian Newspaper for being one of the ‘UK’s Top Crabbing Hotspots’!
Where?
Definitely one of Devon’s crabbing hotspots. Snuggled between the River Dart and a tranquil mill pool, you will always find a place to crab, either along the shore of the mill pool, along the quay or on the dam itself. There are definite crabby hotspots though and the dam is one of the favourite places, the very hottest are closely guarded secrets. Come and find out for yourself where they are!
When?
Crabs can be caught virtually all day long, all year round but we think it is much more fun in the sun.
How?
In the interest of child and wildlife safety we recommend a hook free crab line, a net tied to the line and filled with bait catches more crabs than a hook too. A net is useful for transferring the crabs into a bucket too. All equipment and bait is for sale in The River Shack, as well as ‘Champion Crabber’ t-shirts which the kids love! We just ask you to return your crabs back to the water when you have finished so you can catch them again!
