Situated between the beautiful River Dart estuary and the tranquil mill pond of  historic Stoke Gabriel village,  it is truly a stunning  location. While the River Shack feels deep in the heart of  the Devon countryside it is, infact, only 6 miles from lively coastal towns of Torbay & the laid-back, new-age charm of Totnes.

With lovely views, walking & boating access to  the scenic River Dart, this is also a real crabbing hotspot, rated as one of the best locations in Britian.

Visiting sailors are welcome to tie-up at the quay (check tide-times) There are also several caravan & camping sites nearby, within easy strolling distance.

So whether you’re a keen crabber, canoeist, walker or  just want to relax & enjoy fine local produce in a calm quayside atmosphere, Come down & see us at the River Shack.  A variety of top quality local food and drinks are offered on the menus.

  • Delicious lunches, snacks & toasted ciabattas. Not forgetting our speciality ‘Brixham’ crab salads.

  • Devonshire cream teas with locally baked cakes & scones.
  • Local brewed beer,  Stoke Gabriel village ‘Yarde’ cider. Plus a selection of house & fine wines.
  • ‘Tregothnan’ tea from Cornwall, the only tea to be grown in Britain.

During the Winter our Log-burner was up & running. We are delighted it proved such a big hit with our customers……” the River Shack was so welcoming, warm & cosy we didn’t want to move!
